About
Anna Jean Kos is a New Zealand designer who bases herself between Oahu, Hawai’i and Wellington, New Zealand. AJK pieces are designed and made from materials that prioritise ethical production, low environmental impact and comfort.
AJK started in Hawai’i 2019 with a plastic sewing machine and a borrowed serger (thank you Jess). It was a place to share designs, experiment with textiles and an excuse to make clothing for friends. Over time, designs developed and AJK outgrew pushing her bed up against the wall to cut orders and sewing sets after sets on a worn out machine. Today, our team has grown and our clothing is now made in both Auckland, New Zealand and in Kaimuki, Hawai'i by people who share our values in ethical and sustainable practices. Anna still hand makes all the swimwear herself.
Our collections are an extension of the belief that what you wear should be comfy, beautiful, inclusive, made ethically and with respect to people and planet. There’s a focus on slowing things down, enjoying the process and loving what you do.
Our mission is to be transparent, ethical and conscious of our environmental footprint.
Fabric
We prioritise fabrics that have a lower environmental impact. Our pieces are made from organic hemp, organic linen, recycled fabrics and some deadstock here and there.
Slow Fashion
We're designing pieces to be unique and durable. Our main focus is creating high quality pieces intended to be worn over and over again. Collections are also made in smaller batches to only make what is needed and keep waste to a minimum.
Inclusivity
Custom sizing for swimwear and clothing is available. If you’d like to order something that is outside the listed size range, please send a dm or email. There is no extra charge for this service and we’ll always do our best to accomodate your custom fit needs.
AJK is always looking to improve and innovate when it comes to sustainability and inclusivity. The goal is to remain firm in our beliefs of protecting people and the environment, while remaining transparent about where we’d like to do better.
